Fine is the solo project of Leeds-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Finlay Vallance. Having taken guitar lessons from an early age and later picking up piano, Vallance spent around five years as part of a group called Jabbawoki before launching his solo career during lockdown. Working as Fine, he replaced the collaborative energy of bandmates with a range of inspirations, from found sounds and phone recordings to the deep cuts of his grandfather's record collection. His debut album "Then, Now, Until," released in May 2024, sits at the intersection of guitar music and downtempo electronica, rooted in contemporary jazz, pop, and soul with cherry-picked beat palettes drawn from garage, house, and electronica. The album features collaborations with vocalists Molly Rymer, Jess Edie, and Jonah Evans, bringing folk-infused vocals, R&B lead lines, and jazz sensibilities into Fine's genre-blurring sonic world.
